Product Description

Designed for colder field conditions, the RECON GS2™ R4 Gen II combines durable technical fabrics, lightweight Thermolite™ insulation and a compact military-style sleeping system.

The mummy-shaped construction includes a shaped drawcord hood, storm-protected central zip and reinforced foot area. At approximately 1.45 kg, it is suitable for military field use, camping, emergency preparedness, vehicle kits and outdoor adventures where warmth, durability and packed size are important.

Temperature Rating Information

The manufacturer (Kit Bag Australia)  identifies −10°C as this sleeping bag’s  temperature rating. This rating should be treated as a recommended temperature for routine sleeping.
However all people sleep differently some hot some cold.

An extreme rating represents a survival-based lower limit under controlled test conditions. It does not mean that the user will remain comfortable or completely protected at −10°C.

No separate comfort rating has been supplied for this model. Actual warmth will depend on the user, clothing, sleeping mat, shelter, wind exposure, humidity and overall weather conditions. the copper mannequin method was used to obtain the Australian standards.

When preparing for temperatures around or below freezing, always choose conservatively and use the sleeping bag as part of a complete cold-weather sleep system.

Getting the Best Performance

• Always use a properly insulated sleeping mat.
• Use the sleeping bag inside a suitable tent, shelter or bivvy bag.
• Select a campsite protected from wind and exposed conditions.
• Wear clean, dry insulating layers, warm socks and a beanie when required.
• Avoid alcohol and heavy meals before using a sleeping bag as this will adversely effect your comfort levels.
• Keep the sleeping bag dry and allow it to air thoroughly after use.
• Choose additional insulation if you naturally sleep cold.

Water-Resistance Information

The lower shell and reinforced foot area have a PU 2000 mm waterproof finish to help protect the bag from damp ground and wet footwear.

This does not make the complete sleeping bag waterproof. In rain, snow or consistently wet conditions, it must be used inside a suitable waterproof shelter or sleeping-bag cover.

Frequently Asked Questions

What is the difference between the RECON R3 and R4?

The R4 is the colder-condition model and carries a lower manufacturer-supplied extreme rating. It is also slightly heavier than the R3.

Is the sleeping bag completely waterproof?

No. The lower shell and reinforced foot area have a PU waterproof finish, but the complete sleeping bag is not waterproof. A suitable shelter or bivvy bag is required in wet conditions.

Can it accommodate a person wearing boots?

The foot area is reinforced to help reduce damage caused by boots. Whenever circumstances permit, remove wet or heavily soiled footwear before entering the sleeping bag.

Does it include a compression sack?

Yes. A heavy-duty 210D nylon Oxford spider-style compression sack is included.
