Built for military-style field use, camping, emergency preparedness and overnight outdoor protection, the RECON GS2™ XL Bivvy Bag provides a waterproof and breathable outer layer for your sleeping system.

Its extra-large dimensions provide room for the user, sleeping bag and essential equipment. The fully enclosed design incorporates a top-entry zip, built-in mosquito net, pegging tabs and optional hoop channels, giving you several ways to configure your shelter in the field.

Constructed from Kit Bag Mil-Proof® three-layer waterproof-breathable fabric, this bivvy bag provides substantially greater protection than a basic two-layer cover while allowing internal moisture vapour to escape.

Waterproof and breathability performance can be affected by wear, contamination, cleaning products and the condition of the fabric and seams.

Built-In Mosquito Net

The integrated mosquito net can be zipped into position when protection from insects is required or opened when it is not needed.

The net allows ventilation while helping reduce exposure to mosquitoes and other insects. It does not provide complete protection if entry points are left open or the netting becomes damaged.

Hoop and Pegging Options

Channels are provided at both ends for compatible bivvy hoops. Hoops can help lift the material away from the user’s face and improve the usable internal space.

Bivvy hoops and ground pegs are not included.

The reinforced perimeter tabs can be used with suitable pegs or cord to help secure and position the bivvy. Always consider ground conditions, weather and safe ventilation when setting it up.

Important Use Information

A bivvy bag is a protective outer cover and does not contain insulation. It must be used with a sleeping bag and suitable insulated sleeping mat selected for the expected conditions.

Condensation can still develop inside any waterproof shelter, particularly in cold or humid weather. Maintain appropriate ventilation and air the bivvy and sleeping bag after use.

Never completely seal yourself inside the bivvy without adequate ventilation.

Cleaning and Care Instructions

Correct cleaning is important for preserving the waterproof coating, breathable membrane and seam construction.

• Remove loose mud and debris using clean water and a soft sponge.
• Avoid aggressive scrubbing.
• Close and clean all zips before washing.
• Hand wash in lukewarm water when deeper cleaning is required.
• Use only a cleaner designed for waterproof-breathable technical fabrics.
• Gently massage the fabric without twisting or wringing it.
• Rinse thoroughly until all cleaning-product residue has been removed.
• Gently press out excess water.
• Lay the bivvy flat in a ventilated area and allow it to air dry completely.
• Do not lift or hang the bivvy while it is heavily waterlogged.
• Ensure the bivvy is completely dry before storage.

Do Not Use

• Ordinary laundry detergent
• Bleach
• Fabric softener
• Harsh stain removers
• Dry-cleaning chemicals
• High-pressure cleaning
• Washing-machine spin cycles
• Tumble dryers or direct high heat

Using unsuitable cleaning products or methods may damage the waterproof-breathable membrane and could affect warranty coverage.

Frequently Asked Questions

Does this include a sleeping bag?

No. This product is the waterproof-breathable bivvy bag and stuff sack only. A sleeping bag, mat and other equipment must be purchased separately.

Is the bivvy insulated?

No. A bivvy provides weather protection around your sleeping system but does not replace an appropriately rated sleeping bag or insulated mat.

Does it include a mosquito net?

Yes. A zippered mosquito net is built into the bivvy.

Are the bivvy hoops included?

No. Channels are provided for compatible hoops, but the hoops and pegs are not supplied.

Will condensation ever form inside it?

To be honest It can. Waterproof-breathable fabric allows moisture vapour to escape, but condensation may still occur in cold, wet or humid conditions. Appropriate ventilation remains essential.

Can it accommodate equipment as well as the user?

The extra-large 240 × 100 cm design provides additional room for the user, sleeping bag and essential field equipment. The amount of available space will depend on the user and sleeping equipment.
